Why I love African music

<p>There is always a certain genre of music that I have seemed to end up listening every night. One that appeals to my sense of "not being deeply rooted in my land", and one that at the same time provides me with a sense of "globalness". One that brings up the earthiness as was evident in Indian folk music of days gone by. It is the music of west Africa.A land that has a connection to the Islands and to the music of the Mississippi Delta and New Orleans. There are many knowledgeable authorities on this topic but from purely a listener's point of view, this music reminds me of what we can be. Songs associated with daily living (as any successful song writer will testify) are very popular with the masses. The key is to make it "popular ".  There are many lessons in west African music that our Indian music industry (aka Bollywood)  could learn from.
